The contest was launched three years ago by Gavin Perez, who is now in the fifth grade.
"My son loves Halloween and likes to participate," stated Gavin's mother, Michele Madden-Perez.Her son was 8 years old and a third-grade student when he wrote a letter to the mayor asking if there could be a townwide event, she said.Families compete in one of two categories, "Scariest" or "Fall Festival."They're asked to keep all decorations family-friendly.
Harrington Park Recreation Commission members and one junior member make the rounds for several days before choosing the winner from designated homes.
The winner will be announced Oct. 30 in front of Borough Hall during the Halloween Parade and on the borough TV channel, HPTV, at Harrington Park Elementary School.
